Environment: Planting Native Flora on Point Dume

Share

A campaign to plant more native vegetation on the Point Dume headlands starts this weekend with a coastal restoration organized by the state Department of Parks and Recreation and the Malibu chapter of the environmental group Heal the Bay.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, volunteers will remove non-native plants and replace them with native seedlings in an effort to restore the headlands to a natural state that would support more animals that are native to the area.

Volunteers are asked to take Pacific Coast Highway north to Heathercliff Road. Turn left on Heathercliff and left on Dume Drive. Turn right on Cliffside Drive and park on the street.

There will be a Heal the Bay banner at the entrance to the Point Dume Nature Preserve.

Comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes and a hat or sunscreen are recommended.
