Toyota Breaks Into Big-Car Market: Toyota Motor Corp., which built its reputation with small, fuel-efficient cars, rolled out the biggest Japanese sedan ever offered in the U.S. market, complete with an American-style bench front seat. The Avalon, which goes on sale later this year, will serve as the flagship model for Toyota, filling a void left by the demise of the top-of-the-line Cressida in 1992. The Avalon will be built exclusively in Toyota’s Georgetown, Ky., factory using a stretched version of Toyota’s mid-sized Camry platform. The vehicle’s price was not disclosed.
