BRIEFLY : Education: Ide to Serve as Vice Provost at USC

Hollywood Hills resident Richard S. Ide, interim dean of humanities at the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, has been named vice provost for undergraduate studies.

He will assume the post in July. Ide will be responsible for the coordination of USC’s undergraduate education policies. He also will serve as associate dean of the university’s Leavey Library, where he will assist in the development of library-based teaching and learning programs. He will also oversee the university’s Center for Excellence in Teaching.

Ide served as associate professor of English from 1984 to 1993, and was chairman of the department from 1989 to 1992. He was an assistant professor from 1981 to 1984.

Before joining USC, he served as assistant professor of English at the University of Wisconsin at Madison from 1973 to 1981.
