China’s Inflation Rate Soars: A spending spree to welcome the Year of the Dog will push China’s inflation rate to a new high in the first three months of this year, even as new restrictions on lending cut back construction work, the official China Daily reported. The State Information Center, the nation’s leading forecasting unit, expects the retail price index to hit an annual rate of 14.5% in the first quarter, compared to a 13% rate for the whole of last year, the paper said.
