Ford Readies Profit-Sharing Checks: The auto maker, fresh from reporting the strongest earnings turnaround in the company’s history, said its 152,000 U.S. hourly and salaried employees will receive profit-sharing checks averaging $1,350. Ford this week reported a 1993 profit of $2.5 billion. That follows a 1992 loss of $502 million, excluding $6.88 billion in retiree health care charges. A Ford Motor Co. spokeswoman said the total profit-sharing payout will be about $215 million. Checks will be distributed March 9.
