Collins Finishes Third in Surf Opener

Richie Collins of Newport Beach finished third overall in the season-opening event of the Bud Surf Tour held in six-foot waves at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.

Todd Presage of Australia won the event and $4,000. Santa Barbara’s Chris Brown ($2,250) was second. Collins won $1,400 and fourth-place Joey Jenkins of North Hollywood won $1,250.

Ted Robinson of Manhattan Beach won the longboard competition and $1,000. Joey Hawkins of Huntington Beach was second and earned $750. Jeff Kammmer of San Clemente got $500 for third and Josh Baxter, also of San Clemente, won $350 for fourth.
