Iran Claims Vast New Source of Gas
Iranian Oil Minister Gholamreza Aghazadeh said that a recently discovered field near the southern port of Bushehr contains vast supplies of natural gas. “The first well dug indicates at least 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas” lies under the field, the Iranian news agency IRNA quoted him as saying. Meanwhile, Iran’s deputy oil minister, Habib Aminfar, said construction of the $1.3-billion Bandar Abbas refinery has resumed, and it is expected to start production by March, 1996, with capacity of 232,000 barrels of oil daily.
