Tonya Harding

* In response to “Harding to Compete in Olympics, Drop Lawsuit,” Feb. 13:

Here’s the deal. The U.S. Olympic Committee decided to let Tonya Harding skate so that the media could turn their focus and attention on all of the Olympic athletes and the “true” spirit of the games. Next, the International Olympic Committee says Harding and Nancy Kerrigan get no special treatment and will have to skate together in practices and share the same living area. Now, the first time Kerrigan and Harding are on the ice together, security has been quadrupled. Officials tell us they are “prepared for World War III.”

So, when does the media attention on Harding wane, and just how much money does Harding get to earn, how many centerfolds will she get to be featured in and how many movie deals will she be offered because of her alleged participation in injuring a fellow competitor to better her chances for a gold medal? Only in America. Doesn’t it make you proud?

* It appears that Harding’s new white-collar associates have been more effective than the old blue-collar ones in helping her bludgeon her way into the Olympics. And the new cohorts won’t even go to jail for their efforts!
