PLACENTIA : Contest to Focus on Issues of Disabled

Share

A writing contest titled “What It Means to Be Disabled” is being sponsored by the Placentia Advisory Committee on the Disabled.

The contest is open to junior high school students and students in the Literacy Volunteers of America program offered through the library. Participation is not limited to disabled students.

Committee member Dale Goodman said the contest is an effort to increase awareness of the challenges and abilities of disabled people.

“We hope to expand the contest in future years to include high school students as well,” Goodman said.

Entries will be judged by the committee, and the winners will be announced at a City Council meeting in April. Gift certificates and tickets to amusement parks and sporting events will be awarded to winners in both categories.

Entries must be no more than 250 words and should include the author’s name, address and telephone number. Junior high students should include the name of their school. Entries can be mailed to City Hall, 401 E. Chapman Ave., Placentia, Calif. 92670, and must be received by March 15.
