Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Trial Opens in Killing of Abortion Doctor
The trial of an activist charged with murdering an abortion doctor opened in Pensacola, Fla., with the prosecutor saying the man confessed, and the defense saying a government witness will be implicated. Defendant Michael F. Griffin’s lawyers won a victory just before opening statements, as Circuit Judge John Parnham rejected a prosecution attempt to block introduction of graphic anti-abortion materials. Dr. David Gunn was shot three times in the back March 10 when he arrived for work at the Pensacola Women’s Medical Services clinic.
