Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Airliner Skids Off Runway in Storm
A Continental Airlines plane nearly plunged into a bay when it aborted a takeoff from La Guardia Airport during a snowstorm and skidded into a dike. Twenty-nine of the 110 passengers aboard Denver-bound Flight 795 suffered injuries, said Robert Leonard, an Emergency Medical Services spokesman. The twin-engine MD80 jet was taking off about 6 p.m. EST when it tried to abort the flight, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Moderate snow and 26 m.p.h. winds were reported but officials said it was too early to tell if the weather was a factor.
