“Mom, where do crash-test dummies come from?”

Proving that crash dummies can get into more than one type of accident, a pregnant mannequin turned up recently in a General Motors test laboratory.

So far, neither Vince nor Larry, symbols of seat-belt sanity and stars of countless TV safety commercials, has taken responsibility for siring the plastoid bundle of joy.

Actually, GM and University of Michigan scientists are conducting research into the safety of both mother and child in car crashes, going so far as to create an “inert dummy” that simulates a 7-month-old fetus.

They strongly recommend seat belts for all pregnant women, just as for everyone else.

We still can’t help but wonder where to find cigars that say: “It’s a dummy.”
