It’s OK to Be Straight

Share

I read with outrage the letters from indignant readers who condemned “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” as “homophobic” because the title character, after discovering he’s kissed another man by mistake, runs to the shower to cleanse himself (“Hey, Ace, Homophobia’s Not So Funny!,” Feb. 26). This is not homophobic.

How dare the gay community expect straight people to enjoy kissing members of the same sex! No heterosexual could be expected to receive pleasure from kissing a person of the same sex--no more than you’d expect a gay person to enjoy kissing the opposite sex.

I am constantly infuriated at the gay community’s insistence that everyone is gay. It seems to me that the gay community, in their refusal to believe anyone could be straight, is exposing itself as “heterophobic.”

One more thing: How come nobody pitched a fit when the exact same scene was played out during “The Crying Game,” when a character discovered that the woman he’d been dating was really a man and ran straight to the bathroom to vomit?
