CYPRESS : Nominations Sought for City Arts Award

Share

The Cypress Cultural Arts Commission is seeking nominations for its Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award, which is given to a volunteer who has benefited the arts in the community.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. March 25, and the award recipient will be announced at a reception May 5 during the city’s eighth annual “Cypress Celebrates the Arts” week, which will take place April 29 through May 6. Applications are available at the Cypress Community Center, 5700 Orange Avenue.

The winner will receive a plaque and a commendation by the City Council.

Last year’s winner, Christine Swain, donated time and her own artwork to schools and organizations to raise money for worthwhile local programs, said Nancy Bruns, recreation coordinator of the Cypress Recreation and Park District.

The award “honors volunteers who put so much time into the arts and bringing the arts to the people of Cypress so they can enjoy all different forms of art,” Bruns said.

Two to six nominations have been received in each of the six years since the award was first bestowed. “There’s a lot of work done by volunteers for the arts programs in the city,” Bruns said, adding that she hopes the panel will receive more nominations this year.
