SANTA ANITA : Wekiva Springs Will Skip the San Felipe Stakes
Wekiva Springs, who didn’t run in the San Rafael Stakes because of a quarter crack in a hoof, won’t run in the San Felipe Stakes on March 20.
“He came out of his (Wednesday) work sore,” trainer Bob Hess Jr. said Friday. “We’ve X-rayed him all over, but haven’t found any problem. By the way he was walking after his work, I thought it might be in his knee or shoulder, but they haven’t been able to pinpoint it.”
A son of Runaway Groom, Wekiva Springs worked seven furlongs in 1:31 3/5 Wednesday morning. Owned by Donald R. Dizney, he has won three of four starts, including the Santa Catalina Stakes on Jan. 22.

Lakeway will try to further solidify her position as the nation’s top 3-year-old filly in the $212,800 Santa Anita Oaks on Sunday.
Unbeaten in three starts, the daughter of Seattle Slew will have only five rivals, including Las Virgenes runner-up Fancy ‘N Fabulous, in the 1 1/16-mile Oaks.
