Olympic Auditorium

* As a former spectator of events at the Olympic Auditorium, I was happy to read Tim Kawakami’s article about current efforts to revive and reopen that arena. However, your history summary states: “1945: The Olympic Auditorium begins wrestling shows, promoted by Eaton. . . .” This gives the impression that there was no wrestling at the Olympic prior to 1945. I saw wrestling matches there from the ‘30s up to World War II, promoted by Jack Daro. Among the wrestling notables I saw in the Olympic ring during this period were Jimmy Londos and Sandor Szabo, as well as former football star Bronco Nagurski and former heavyweight boxing title contender, George Godfrey. These old-timers, and many more, from the Olympic’s pre-baby-boomer past may be unknown to younger generations, but they were there!
