Latino Adults Wanted for Diabetes Study

The Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center is seeking adult Latino men and women to participate in a first-ever national research effort to determine if Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes can be prevented.

The Medical Center was chosen as one of 10 sites in the United States to participate in the National Institutes of Health study, which might help prevent the onset of diabetes in thousands of Southern California Latinos.

The Medical Center is seeking adults up to 45 years of age who have an immediate family member with Type 1 diabetes, such as a son, daughter, parent, brother or sister.

The study also seeks adults up to 45 years of age who have a secondary family member with Type 1 diabetes, such as a cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle or grandchild.

Candidates for the study must not have diabetes, have no previous history of being treated with insulin or oral diabetes medications, have not been involved in any previous clinical studies to prevent diabetes, and have no known serious diseases.
