NAME THAT TEAM: That new Anaheim Arena indoor soccer franchise, which starts a 28-game schedule in June, still doesn’t have a team name. “We’ve had a lot of suggestions,” says John Nicoletti of team owner Ogden Corp. Among them: Inferno, the Barons, the Orange Roughies. . . . The team is also seeking applications for tryouts up to a March 28 deadline. “Who knows,” Nicoletti says, “The diamond in the rough we’re looking for might be a walk-on player.”

HELPING TO CARE: Many local residents who have finally raised their children now find themselves with a new task--caring for an elderly parent (E1). But you don’t have to face it alone. The state-funded Orange Caregiver Resource Center gives free help to people responsible for a parent’s care. It adds about 800 new clients to its list each year. . . . “Some people who’ve just started caring for an elderly parent have no idea where to begin,” says the center’s Ian Wilson. “We help them organize a plan. And we tell them what resources are out there for them.”

DOG’S PAL EARL: When organizers of the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival were kicking around stars’ names for their country theme, someone suggested getting a real cowboy look-alike--like Earl Holliman. . . . How about Earl Holliman? The venerable movie and TV actor, who has played in dozens of Westerns (“The Sons of Katie Elder,” “Gunfight at the OK Corral”) has agreed to be the grand marshal for the festival parade Memorial Day Weekend. He’s appeared in Orange County many times, usually on behalf of animal-rights causes.

KEEPING TIME: The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble--appearing tonight at the Orange County Performing Arts Center (F1)--takes an unusual step for a troupe devoted to the preservation of traditional folk music, song and dance. . . . Its “Dance Words,” created before the fall of Soviet communism, speaks out against that regime. But, asserts troupe choreographer Sandor Timar, “folklore is always adjusting to the recent times.”
