Jeff Massey’s go-ahead jump shot with 1:10 in overtime and Brian Grant’s two free throws with four seconds to play Monday night lifted Xavier past Northwestern, 83-79, at Evanston, Ill., in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
In other games: Devin Gray’s 22 points led Clemson to a 96-79 victory over West Virginia at Morgantown, W.Va.; Villanova used a 24-4 first-half run to beat Duquesne, 82-66, at Pittsburgh, and Billy McCaffrey’s 20 points lifted Vanderbilt to a 78-59 victory over New Orleans at Nashville, Tenn.
