LPGA Salutes Dinah Shore by Making Her an Honorary Hall of Fame Member

In a tribute to the late Dinah Shore, the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. announced Tuesday that she has been elected an honorary member of the LPGA Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame, considered one of the most difficult to get into in sports, has only 13 members from the playing ranks. Shore, who helped build interest in the LPGA tour through the Nabisco Dinah Shore tournament, is the only honorary member.

The announcement was made by Commissioner Charles S. Mechem at the banquet that precedes the tournament. The 72-hole event begins Thursday at the Mission Hills Country Club.

Mechem also announced that the LPGA scholarship program will be named after the entertainer, who died of cancer Feb. 24. The first Dinah Shore LPGA Scholarship is expected to be awarded for the 1994-95 school year.
