It may well have been a preview of the Western Conference playoff finals.

Detlef Schrempf scored five of his season-high 27 points in the final 2 1/2 minutes Thursday night as the SuperSonics, with the best overall and home records in the NBA, added to them by surviving a late Phoenix rally in a 116-106 victory at Seattle.

Schrempf made 13 of 16 shots, including nine in a row at one point. His dunk with 2:16 to play gave the SuperSonics a 107-99 lead, and he followed that with a baseline shot with 1:41 left for a 109-100 advantage.

Charles Barkley led the Suns with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Phoenix cut most of a 27-point third-quarter deficit by playing better defense and limited the SuperSonics to 38 points in the second half.
