Santa Anita-based Irgun won the $250,000 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct by six lengths Saturday in only his third start.

Irgun, ridden by Jerry Bailey and carrying 114 pounds, pressed the pace before taking command on the turn, and pulled away to cover the mile in 1:36 1/5 over the fast main track.

The colt, trained by Steven Young, scored his second victory and earned $150,000 for owners Marianne and Brandon Chase.

Irgun made his racing debut in February at Santa Anita, breaking his maiden impressively at 6 1/2 furlongs, and then finished a strong second in an allowance race earlier this month before shipping to New York. Young said that he will keep Irgun in New York for the Wood Memorial on April 16.

Irgun returned $5.40, $4.00 and $3.20. Bit Of Puddin paid $7.80 and $5.40 and Jesse F returned $6.60.
