U.S. Autos and Parts to Be Promoted: The Japan Auto Parts Industries Assn. and the Japan Automobile Importers Assn., following the example of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assn., announced plans to promote U.S. autos and auto parts. Automobiles and components account for roughly two-thirds of Japan’s $59-billion trade surplus with the United States. The plan released by the Japan Auto Parts Industries Assn., which represents 529 Japanese component manufacturers, proposed regular meetings with U.S. auto parts makers to expand business opportunities. The Japan Automobile Importers Assn. said it will increase the number of import exhibits it holds. The association will also encourage its members to expand sales and maintenance networks for foreign cars.
