LOS ANGELES : Sanitation Bureau to Offer Composting Workshops
The city Bureau of Sanitation will offer a series of back-yard composting workshops throughout the year, officials announced this week.
“Composting is nothing new or revolutionary. But once people get started . . . they really get into it,” said Monchai Yaopruke of the Bureau of Sanitation. “We’re trying to make it easier for people to become effective composters. After all, everyone gains from this.” Composting reduces disposal of yard trimmings disposal and thus reduces the waste dumped at landfills, Yaopruke said.
The community education programs provide hands-on demonstrations. Participants may purchase discounted compost bins at the workshops.
The next scheduled workshop in Los Angeles will be held next Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Peck Park and Recreation Center, 560 N. Western Ave. in San Pedro.
