Biopool Gets FDA’s OK to Market New Line

Biopool International Inc., a Ventura producer of medical test kits, has received federal Food and Drug Administration approval to market a new lilene of controls used in drug abuse testing.
The new line includes seven different controls for a total of 10 drugs commonly used in random testing, pre-employment screening and the testing of persons in parole and probation programs.
Michael D. Bick, Biopool’s chairman and chief executive, said such controls, which verify a test’s accuracy, represent a $30-million U.S. market and a $60-million worldwide market.
Biopool, founded in 1987, now produces about 40 tests and controls, mostly for diagnosing bleeding and vascular disorders.
