Clinton Gets a Leg Up on Jogging Joke

Ameritech Wisconsin President Bronson Haase gave President Clinton a running suit Monday emblazoned with the name of the company--and added some fashion advice.

Holding the gift, Clinton laughed and told an audience of Ameritech employees, “I want to tell you what your fearless leader had just said to me, in a way that you couldn’t hear over the microphone. He said, ‘I want you to have this jogging suit because I keep seeing you running in running shorts and I think it would be better if you had long pants.’ ‘

Clinton, whose chunky, white legs are often fodder for comedians, poked fun at himself. “Hey, you know it’s part of my job to make people feel better, and I’ve made millions of Americans feel better about how they look in running clothes,” he said to laughter.
