BRIEFLY : Health: Professor Heads Research Team
A professor at Santa Monica-based Rand Corporation has been selected to oversee one of six centers nationwide that will research how to promote health in older minority populations.
Walter Allen will direct researchers from Rand and Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, as well as community organizations, looking into health standards in South-Central Los Angeles’ older black population.
The goal is to develop screening programs to identify people lacking health care and examine nutritional patterns.
The work will be conducted under the auspices of the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Health’s Office of Research on Minority Health.
