Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Guns boomed east of Aden as northern troops advanced on the southern stronghold on the third day of civil war. Foreigners terrorized by the escalating bloodshed fled Aden and the capital, Sana. The northerners have been trying to cut off access to vital oil fields and installations controlled by the southerners. Conservative North Yemen merged with socialist South Yemen in May, 1990, to form the Arab world’s youngest republic.
