Joblessness Prompts Immigration Curbs: With unemployment at about 10.3%, the government will limit immigration in fiscal 1994 in an effort to help the long-term unemployed during the country’s economic recovery, Immigration Minister Nick Bolkus said. Almost a quarter of Australia’s 17.7 million people were born overseas and another quarter are second-generation migrants.
