Bosnian Serbs on Wednesday accused the Muslim-led government of launching a new artillery attack on Brcko in northern Bosnia, 24 hours after shelling killed four in the town center, sharply raising tensions in the region.

But in central and southern Bosnia, Muslim and Croatian leaders agreed on political and territorial issues of a Bosnian federation.

The latest attack on Brcko apparently caused no casualties as five tank shells hit the town’s outskirts.

But Tuesday evening, a shell killed a 61-year-old man, his pregnant daughter-in-law and her 2-year-old daughter. A policeman died later from wounds suffered in the shelling.

The United Nations fears that Brcko, straddling a vital Serbian supply line, will become the focus of the next big battle in the Bosnian war as rivals build their forces in the area.
