Venice : Housing Agency Worker Gives of Herself: $50,000

Share

Heidi Frey normally hunts for big donations to help the Venice Community Housing Corp. buy property for affordable housing.

Now, she and her husband, Robert Greenwald, have made one.

The couple’s $50,000 contribution last Friday is about half of the cash the nonprofit corporation will need to buy and renovate a four-unit Oakwood building for low-income renters. The total cost of the project is estimated at $290,000, most of which will come from loans, said Steve Clare, the corporation’s executive director.

Frey, a screenwriter, is a member of the corporation’s fund-raising committee. She and her husband, a director and producer, live in Venice.

Clare said he hopes the donation will spur others. Donations reduce the need for loans and help keep rents low, he said.
