Redken Announces Move to Kentucky

Share

Redken Laboratories, the Canoga Park maker of salon products, will sell its two buildings in Canoga Park and move to Florence, Ky., by the end of the summer, said Howard Geiger, vice president of operations.

About 360 people are employed at the Canoga Park locations. Many of those working in production and management will move with the company, he said.

Redken razed about 60,000 square feet of warehouse space at its production facility due to damage from the Northridge earthquake, but the rest of the complex is still in use. Geiger said earthquake damage is not the reason for the move.

The company, which is owned by New York-based Cosmair Inc., U. S. distributor of the French company L’Oreal, has had production facilities in both Kentucky and Canoga Park for some time and was not fully using either one, Geiger said. To become more efficient and expand, the company in recent months decided to move all its operations to the newer facility. The Florence plant is about 7 years old; the Canoga Park plant is about 30 years old.

Redken is asking $12 million for its two Canoga Park properties.
