Palestinian Police

Share

Pictures of large crowds of Palestinians joyously welcoming the new Palestinian police force to Gaza and Jericho (May 13) as conquering heroes after 27 years of Israeli rule are nice but I wonder if the Palestinians may be celebrating too soon. Now comes the task of establishing a government and stable economic and strategic relationships with Israel and their neighbors.

I hope that soon the Palestinians and their leadership will realize that celebrations are nice, but the proof is in what they are able to accomplish in the next weeks and months. Talk is cheap if all the Palestinians gain is sovereignty over an ungovernable territory.

It bodes well for Israel to be rid of the responsibility of governing Gaza. It also bodes well for Israel to see a stable government and a sense of prosperity come to the citizens of Gaza and Jericho.
