Choices Narrowed for Key GM Post: General Motors Corp. Chief Executive John Smith is said to be close to naming an executive to oversee GM’s all-important North American Automotive Operations. According to industry sources and published reports, Smith has narrowed the choice to Louis Hughes, head of GM’s International Operations, and Richard Wagoner, currently chief financial officer and head of GM’s $50-billion-a-year purchasing program.
