Bosnia Muslims Press Assaults; Britain Irked

Bosnian Muslims pressed their assaults on Serbs on several fronts Thursday, and an exasperated Britain joined France in threatening to pull out its peacekeepers unless there is progress toward peace.

The warning was directed at all warring parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but seemed mostly aimed at pressuring the Muslim-led government to show flexibility in peace negotiations.

With Bosnian army troops embarked on their greatest successes against the Serbs to date, their commanders are unlikely to be in an accommodating mood.

U.N. officials, with the help of NATO, have forced the Serbs to end attacks on several Muslim enclaves.

Britain’s Foreign Office said the warning was not an ultimatum but an attempt “to inject a sense of urgency to get some peace talks going.”

Britain has 3,300 peacekeepers in the ex-Yugoslav federation, most in Bosnia.
