British U.N. Troops Set Up Post Above Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — British U.N. soldiers moved into positions on a mountaintop overlooking Sarajevo on Friday to try and defuse tension between Serbian and Muslim-led forces.
About 30 soldiers from the Royal Anglian Regiment cleared brush and parked armored vehicles in the remnants of an old shepherds’ village on Mt. Igman, setting up an observation post to monitor a shaky cease-fire around the Bosnian capital.
U.N. peacekeeping officials said eventually 160 British soldiers would deploy on Mt. Igman, which was the scene of heavy fighting earlier in the war.
Bosnian Serbs withdrew last year from Mt. Igman and another strategic peak on condition the area be demilitarized.
