D-Day Anniversary

Share

* In response to “50 Years Later, Normandy Gets Set for 2nd Wave,” May 16:

Your article says, “ . . . Tens of thousands of World War II veterans, joined by President Clinton, Queen Elizabeth II and other heads of state and government will converge on the bluffs, the villages, the homes and the cemeteries of northern France on June 6 to remember D-day--the bloody beginning of the end of World War II.”

A gracious action would be for President Clinton to send as his emissary one of our former presidents--Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter or George Bush--all war veterans. But such gestures are uncommon among politicians of the “me generation,” especially, perhaps, among those who have no war record!
