China to Remove Some Import Controls: On the eve of a trip to Europe and the United States to discuss China’s bid to enter the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, Assistant Trade Minister Long Yongtu said Beijing is abolishing import quotas and license requirements for 195 goods in a bid to bring its trade system closer to international standards. Import controls on 30 items will be lifted by year’s end and the rest by the end of 1995, Long said.
