Maybe they had it No. 301, too: A Los Angeles magazine article, “300 Reasons Not to Leave L.A.,” drew a letter from Paul Gommi, who pointed out:

“You forgot the biggest reason of all. . . . YOU CAN’T SELL YOUR HOUSE!”

It shook us awake: Incidentally, the editors of L.A. magazine wanted to make sure that no reader’s attention wandered while reading the Top 300 list. So a certain high-salaried news anchor was included in this fashion:

“No. 199--Paul Moyer (only kidding!).”

You’ve had enough, Lisa: Skip Lau found a classified ad for a dancer who seems to be admitting that she has a problem.

It was tough to find a saloon with a no-smoking section, though: If you’re struggling to kick the tobacco habit, you might take some consolation in the fact that people have been trying to break the habit for at least a century, as readers Clyde and Carolyne Hostetter found while perusing an 1894 newspaper.

“In a short time Anti-Nicotine cures the tobacco habit,” the ad said. “Is perfectly safe and harmless. Price reduced to 75 cts. per 4 oz. bottle; $1.25 for two bottles; $2.50 for four bottles.”

But that’s not all.

The ad continued: “Anti-Nicotine is also a first-class aphrodisiac, or restorer of lost or declining masculine vigor. . . . Send orders to Dr. H.P. Shove.”

Who knows? Anti-Nicotine might even cure Lushes Lisa.

they’ll change the lyric to “Welcome to the Motel California” in her honor: c,pl,8.5 We’re not sure this had anything to do with the decision of a famous band to reunite, but it should be noted that the opening line to the Amy Fisher autobiography is: “The Eagles are my all-time favorite group.” (You’ll have to read the book if you want to find out who Joey Buttafuoco’s all-time favorite was.)

Fisher’s opening may be the most stirring in a literary work since “The Big Love,” Florence Aadland’s story of the romance between her 15-year-old daughter Beverly and a famous actor.

“There’s one thing I want to make clear right off,” Aadland wrote. “My baby was a virgin the day she met Errol Flynn.”

Say it ain’t so, Lassie!June Lockhart of Santa Monica, who starred in the “Lassie” TV show from 1958 to 1964, recently traveled to Niagara Falls, N.Y., where she was the guest of honor at a specialty show featuring 1,000 collies.

“I don’t believe one was named Lassie,” she says.

Lockhart, by the way, publicly confirmed a bit of gossip that has circulated throughout Hollywood for years. Of the four dogs that portrayed the brave, faithful female, all were males.

“Male dogs are easier to train,” she explained. “They’re bigger and they don’t have the problem, to delicately put it, of coming into season.”

The $167,000 first place prize in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was recently won by a 25-year-old entrant from Rosemead named Huck Seed. (That’s it--we just like the name.)
