One-fourth of the single homeless people in Britain have served in the armed forces, and defense cuts could send the numbers soaring higher, according to a charity’s study.

In its study, the housing charity Crisis concluded that former servicemen are more disadvantaged than other homeless people because of the culture shock of leaving behind a regimented life.

The charity’s director, Mark Scothern, predicted that the numbers would grow as the government’s planned defense layoffs for up to 17,000 personnel are carried through.
