Music: A Salute to Jr. Philharmonic

Share

Call it continuity. For 57 years, Ernst Katz has conducted the Junior Philharmonic of California, touted as the oldest young people’s symphony in the West.

And Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Katz, one of the orchestra’s founders, will wield the baton at its 57th Anniversary Concert Gala at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Culver City. Highlighting the festivities will be the annual celebrity “Battle of the Batons.”

Concert coordinator Lori Greene Gordon said the evening will feature “selections from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Carmen, and a salute to the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein.”
