BRIEFLY : School: Scholarship Named for Teacher

Share

A future Cornell University student will receive a scholarship named for Dean P. Schenker, a University High School teacher.

Schenker, who teaches honors and advanced placement English, was chosen by Christopher Goffard, a graduating senior at Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., as the teacher who made the most significant contribution to his education.

The $4,000 scholarship, awarded over a four-year period in Schenker’s name, will be given to a Hamilton High School student who attends Cornell. The award will be given to an incoming student from another Los Angeles city school if no one from Hamilton enrolls at Cornell.

Goffard, who was enrolled at Hamilton from 1988 to 1990, was named a Merrill Presidential Scholar at Cornell by his dean, based on his scholastic achievement and leadership ability.
