Keep walking, and keep healthy.

That’s the theme of an early-morning walking program for senior citizens scheduled this summer on the track at Golden West College.

The 10-session program starts June 24 and continues through Aug. 26.

Registration is currently underway at the college’s Community Services Office. The program fee is $26.

“The program is recommended for all seniors who are new to exercise as well as participants in the Golden West College beginning and advanced aerobic-exercise workshops,” said Lori Thomas, a spokeswoman for the college.

“Emphasis is placed on breathing and walking posture, and (the class) provides a cardiovascular workout, including warm-up, walk-out, cool-down and final stretch-out exercises.

Walking shoes and sweat suits are recommended.”

The instructor for the walking workshop is Ruth E. Bennett, who holds a master’s degree in education with emphasis on fitness for older adults.

The walking class is designed for “active seniors, ages 55 to 79,” college officials said.
