HUNTINGTON BEACH : 2 Schools to Receive Healthy Start Grants
Two elementary schools in the Ocean View School District are among 266 statewide to receive Healthy Start grants, the California Department of Education announced.
The goal of Healthy Start is to improve children’s academic readiness and success, family functioning, health, self-esteem and job status by providing a host of integrated services at or near schools.
The services include health, mental health, social and educational programs.
“Healthy Start is one of the most promising and exciting initiatives for kids in California today,” said William D. Dawson, acting superintendent of public instruction.
The program will operate at 890 schools in communities throughout the state.
