SIMI VALLEY : Schools Allowed to Establish Dress Codes

Share

Simi Valley school officials have agreed to let individual schools establish dress codes that encourage, but don’t require, students to wear uniforms.

Three of five members of the Simi Valley Unified school board said Tuesday that they believe schools should be allowed to establish voluntary uniform policies if parents and staff support the idea.

The decision opens the way for Garden Grove Elementary to move forward with a policy that would encourage students to wear blue pants and navy skirts with white blouses or shirts. Students not wearing the uniform would be subject to a strict dress code, said Principal Elroy Peterson.

Board President Carla Kurachi and members Judy Barry and Doug Crosse supported allowing schools to introduce uniforms, while board members Diane Collins and Debbie Sandland were opposed.
