From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Three Cuban nationals flew a 1940s-era crop-duster to the Florida Keys, where they landed at a U.S. Navy base and asked for political asylum. A Navy spokeswoman said pilot Ariel Correal Gonzalez, 29, had picked up his sister, Yenina Zabrana Gonzalez, and her husband, Frank Alberto Beads, both 23, as well as crop-dusting chemicals before taking off for Florida. Sunday’s flight was the latest in a series of defections in which Cubans have stolen, borrowed or commandeered various aircraft to make the 90-mile journey to Florida.
