Great Expectations Still OK at Wimbledon, Great Expectorations Aren’t

WIMBLEDON, England — Wimbledon is asking players to quit spitting on its famous grass courts.
The All England Club said it is asking the Assn. of Tennis Professionals, coaches and agents to urge players to control their spitting--a practice that drew numerous complaints from the public last year.
“We feel pretty strongly about it,” All England Club chief executive Chris Gorringe said. “We are hoping to get increased cooperation from the players. What heightens the problem is that we do not go to commercial breaks on television during the changeovers, when it is most prevalent.”
The British press has singled out Goran Ivanisevic and Andre Agassi as the biggest offenders.
