Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Israeli warplanes attacked Shiite Muslim guerrilla bases in southern Lebanon as Shiites observed the martyrdom of their most revered saint with parades and self-flagellation. Two fighter-bombers fired six rockets on hills surrounding the village of Mlita in Apple province, a stronghold of the Iranian-backed Shiite fundamentalists of Hezbollah. Israel’s army said the warplanes attacked “terrorist” targets used by Hezbollah in the Jebel Safi area. Hezbollah said none of its guerrillas were wounded in the late-morning raid, the fourth since June 2.
