PHANTOM NUMBERS: “Phantom of the Opera” arrives at the Orange County Performing Arts Center next month, and officials at the Costa Mesa center say there are plenty of dollar signs to spread around from it. . . . A sample: an expected $1.1 million in sales tax revenue, plus $15 million infused into the local economy. That’s based on the 153,000 people they say will see the musical, which runs from July 22 to Sept. 4. In Denver, the show also paid out $68,000 a week in local labor costs.

PLAYING CHICKEN: Shareholders who attended the annual meeting Monday of CKE Restaurants Inc.--that’s the brand new name for Carl Karcher Enterprises (D6)--were given free meal coupons for the Boston Chicken restaurant of their choice. Only problem: Boston Chicken’s first Southern California location doesn’t open until July 25. . . . It will be in a former Carl’s Jr. at Garfield Avenue and Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley. CKE plans to open as many as 300 Boston Chicken restaurants during the next five years.

DAUGHTER’S DAY: To win Miss California, Jennifer Hanson got a little help from Alabama. Hanson, a Fullerton College student, sang “Since I Fell for You” at the weekend pageant in Fresno. The number was arranged by her father, Larry Hanson, who is lead guitarist for country music’s Alabama. Hanson, 20, is a music major and a Rams cheerleader who had also won the Miss Garden Grove contest. She moves to San Diego for immediate training for the Miss America contest Sept. 17.

WORLD CUP CENTRAL: If you need World Cup soccer information, an official information booth opened over the weekend at South Coast Plaza in its Carousel Court. . . . You can get a complete schedule of games, ticket information, and even which local stores are selling World Cup merchandise. But don’t expect to buy World Cup tickets there. Most of the games are already sold out, but what seats are left must be purchased through ticket agencies.
