IRVINE : UCI Professor Wins Wilson Fellowship

Brook Thomas, an English professor at UC Irvine, is one of 32 scholars chosen as a Woodrow Wilson fellow for the upcoming academic year.

Thomas and the other 31 academics were chosen from among 819 applicants from 82 countries. They will spend a year at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. Thomas will pursue research in American literary realism.

Created in 1968 as the nation’s official memorial to its 28th President, the Wilson center houses an annual residential fellowship program, plays host to conferences on a range of public policy issues and publishes various periodicals and books.

Thomas graduated from Stanford University in 1970 and received her Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara five years later.

She taught at universities in Germany, Hawaii and Massachusetts before joining the faculty at Irvine in 1988.

She has authored three books of literary criticism.
